Tips for Verifying Recall Petition Signatures

In over 40 years teaching credit union audit committees how to discourage or detect forged and altered signatures, few auditors ever implemented my recommendations only to protect the credit union's money. They all, however, implemented just about everything I recommended once they were convinced what I suggested would protect their most valued reputation. No matter how you slice it, screw up your reputation and you can kiss the trust of others good bye let alone a chance for your  next promotion or loan from your credit union.

Most parents preach the importance of having pride in your surname. Mom's caution, "You're going to be judged by the company you keep." Dad's harp on building good "character." And, credit union's preach the importance of following the three "Cs" of sound lending. First consider the loan applicants Character, than their Capacity to repay and finally the need fro adequate Collateral to secure the loan.

So how does this apply to signing a recall petition? Many have died fighting to preserve our right to hold free and honest elections, So, anytime you sign a petition to void someone's vote, you're putting your family surname, trust in your good character, and reputation on the line. Too often petitions are signed without thinking. Too often they're signed without consequences. So what's the answer?

Everyone should be involved in vetting the recall petition signatures. Republicans to weed out forgeries and fraud. Democrats and Independents to repair the damage this union driven recall has done to good name of the Democratic Party. I encourage everyone to Click here and get involved in the verification process. Once the data has been entered you'll be able to search to see if your name's been used, how many times, and by whom. Most important, you'll be able to testify whether or not the signature used is yours.

I suggest the following when verifying petition signatures:

  • Always write your signature as complete and clearly as possible. It's harder for the forger to duplicate or alter a full and legible signature.

  • Compare your signature to other signatures and writing on the document you signed. For example, when reviewing entries on recall petitions, compare signatures to the signature and handwriting of the person collecting signature.

  • Study the beginning, ending, and connecting strokes in each signature as well as the height, slant, and size of letters and numbers. For example, forgers usually start, connect, and end forged signatures similar to their own. Beaware when all zip code numbers look alike. It indicates the forger filled in the zip code while maybe not illegal it voids its forensic value.

  • Hold the signature at a distance and upside down. That'll make common strokes and signatures standout.

  • The fundamental question you need to ask is, could that signature stand alone as the person who signed the document. That is, "seeing no other example of that persons hand writing, would you lend them your money. While an "X" or a scribble might be acceptable on a get-well card, when voiding another persons vote, you'd better make sure the signature calling for the recall of a duly elected official is spot-on, complete, clear, and legible.

Opinions expressed on this web site are mine alone!

They may or may not reflect the opinions of my Risk Management Learning Center faculty, our clients, nor the companies with whom I'm associated.

Opinion #1: Each day should start and end with a prayer and reflection on a biblical verse! My favorite verse is Ecclesiastes 10:2 "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left."

Opinion #2: Those who support the Scott Walker recall need to Click here and consider the taxpayer benefits seen throughout Wisconsin thanks to his time in office, and here to understand how he got our economy heading in the right direction.

Opinion #3: No matter what your political affiliation or ideology, always fight to protect the right of your opposition to vote their conscience. I'm fundamentally against all recalls no matter which party is involved.

Opinion #4: Knowing your good reputation is your most valuable asset and knowing you're going to be judge by the company you keep; if you've signed a recall petition or if you're a Christian now faced with Obama's attack on our religious freedoms, I suggest you distance yourself as far as possible from the Democrat Party. Click here to help identify fraudulent signatures on recall petitions. Petition signatures will be part of a searchable data base so you'll be able to check to see who were entangled in what even the liberal press has dubbed "One of the most questionable recall efforts in Wisconsin's history. Click here if you've already registered and have a login password,

You need only visit www.reform.wi.gov or www.itsworkingwisconsin.com to appreciate the benefits taxpayers have already experienced having Scott Walker in office. As a growing number of my Democrat friends are saying, "Recalling Scott Walker is like shooting ourselves in the foot.”

It's time Christians take a stand against Obama's Healthcare mandates!

Christians who support Obama's healthcare mandates such as the latest issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services had better take an in-depth personal look at how government dictated healthcare threatens their freedom of religion.

The latest Health and Human Services mandate requires all employers including churches to carry healthcare coverage that includes paying for abortion inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception.

Click here for a word of caution from Ronald Reagan about government dictated healthcare.

As a Catholic who's sick and tired of apologizing for mistakes in our past, I'm now more than proud to say my Church is taking a long over-due stand against the Democrat driven Obama healthcare mandates. I'm sure other Christian churches will be taking a similar stand.

CLICK HERE to read Bishop David Ricken's (Bishop of the Green Bay Diocese) call for Catholics to stand up and be counted.  The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called this ruling "literally unconscionable."  More information and background about the H.S.S. mandates and our bishops' response can be found at: http:www.usccb.org/conscience

PS: Those who think Obama's healthcare mandates only applies to large companies had better stop kidding themselves. FYI: OSHA regulations first applied only to large companies and now most states applies to any employer hiring more than 5 employees.

It's time Wisconsin taxpayers to stand up and be counted!

"Let me make it perfectly clear," those on the far left and top of the union food chain who are driving the recall of Scott Walker are not the Democrats or union members I fought with in Vietnam, grew up with in Door County or worked with in Dane County during most of my career.

The death threats against Wisconsin Republicans during 2011, the booing during our National anthem, the blowing a horn in the ear of an elderly women speaking support for Walker, the Hitler name calling, and union' intimidation of those who disagree with union leadership is something no Democrat in my family, and there are many, would stand for. No matter what our political stand, It's time those of us who believe in a free society muster the courage to if not stop the recall, at least vote to keep Scott Walker in office until the end of his term.

Let's not forget how many wars we've fought and lives have been lost fighting for our right to hold elections. Click here to meet five Door County vets who were killed in action while I was with them in Vietnam.

My caution for those who condone the recall tactics documented during the Walker recall is simple; you're on the same slippery slope that lead to the shooting of Gabby Gifford at the Safeway store in Tucson Arizona.

Let's remember three political realities:

  1. First, you never want to shoot to kill the guy on the other side of a political disagreement, fore tomorrow you both might be on the same side of the fence.
  2. You'll always be judged by the company you keep. And
  3. When you lack the courage to defend your right to vote, you're probably not going to have the courage to lay down your life to defend your neighbors vote, let alone their freedom to chart their own destiny.

God Bless you all. Now get out there and help us keep Scott Walker in office. No one can doubt his courage nor can, if they're willing to listen to the facts, doubt he's got Wisconsin heading in the right direction!

Rich Woldt's Frustration Meter and Request for Input

  1. If we opened one Alaskan reserve gas prices in the U.S. would be under $2 in five years! Click here and remember the Democrats have blocked most U.S. drilling and pipeline projects that would make us energy independent.
  2. Developing iron mines in Northern Wisconsin would bring billions of $ to our economy as it has to Michigan who in addition to the initial financial rewards, reclaimed land creating pristine lakes stocked with fish which added additional tourist and tax revenue to their economy. Click here and ask yourself why Democrats oppose this potential economic boom for Wisconsin.
  3. I receive many anti Obama emails, most are factual but some need to be researched before I file them in our RMLC R&D files. For example:  If you're a real estate professional or tax accountant, please click here and help me verify the accuracy of the email I received on January 31, 2012. I understand that most of this email is true, for example, the 3.8% tax kicks in only after you profit over $500 thousand.  I'll note this in my file and for now leave it open for further input. Call me at 608-712-7880 if you think I should delete it from this web site.
